Anita Chandavarkar

Classically trained flutist, Anita Chandavarkar, has performed on various stages, from Millennium Park in Chicago, to historic theaters in Southeastern Italy. As a performer, Anita is one half of the San Francisco-based flute-guitar duo, Duo Swara, giving performances of classical, folk, and Hindustani-based music, throughout the Bay Area. As an orchestral musician, Anita has performed in various orchestras, as flute/piccolo in the South Bay Symphony in Campbell, California, and Lakeshore Symphony in Chicago. She was educated at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, having received a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music respectively, in classical flute performance. Her principal teachers include Walfrid Kujala, former Chicago Symphony Orchestra Piccolo, and Paula Robison, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center founding Artist Member. Aside from classical music, Anita also performs on the bansuri, having studied Hindustani music with Chicago-based flutist Lyon Leifer, disciple of Devendra Murdeshwar.
