George Jones

Currently pursuing a master’s degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of music, I have a bachelors of music in trombone performance from the Oberlin Conservatory and I have experience teaching players of all levels from players who have just started trombone to students pursuing trombone performance at major conservatories. I have taught and been involved with large ensemble classes since 2009 at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp where I taught small ensemble classes as well as sectionals and was involved in teaching concert and jazz bands. I have had a small private studio of collegiate students beginning my first year at the Oberlin Conservatory in 2012 to my graduation in 2016. I have also been a brass instructor with the Youth Orchestras of Los Angeles where I was in charge of teaching trombone sectionals and private lessons.

More about George

Degree: Pursuing Master's in Music from The San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Experience: > 6 Years

Age groups: Kids • Teens • Adults

Teaching: Trombone • Trumpet • Tuba • Euphonium

Styles: Classical • Jazz • Blues

Levels: Beginner • Intermediate • Advanced

Methods: My teaching method is based on relaxed instrumental fundamentals focused through music. The technique I teach is collected from ideologies gathered from Arnold Jacobs, Emory Remmington, and current brass musicians such as Timothy Higgins, Joseph Alessi, Shachar Israel and Nitzan Haroz. In short, I want my students to develop a strong physical ability to play and expand their instrumental prowess through having fun focusing on music.

My teaching philosophy is for my students to develop a strong physical ability to play their instruments and expand their technical prowess through having fun focusing on music. Emphasizing techniques developed by Arnold Jacobs, Emory Remmington, and current musicians such as Timothy Higgins, Joseph Alessi, Shachar Israel and Nitzan Haroz, I plan to expand each of my student's fundamental expertise on trombone. Scales, lip slurs, and articulation exercises are a few things that will be common in lessons, but will be applied through playing solo repertoire and duets.
