Mr. Garner has put his extensive musical training to good use in his career, performing with a wide and diverse range of groups. From a young age through his higher education, Trent has had the chance to play with a variety of ensembles, including symphonic bands, orchestras, percussion ensembles, brass ensembles, choirs, jazz bands, musical/opera pits, marching bands, and new music ensembles. Always excited by idea of world exploration and brought up in a musical family, Trent always knew he wanted to be a musician. Since then, he has seen many opportunities to both perform and travel. Marching band and high school tours between 2007 and 2009 brought performance opportunities through much of the western U.S..

His years as an undergraduate took him even further, touring almost all of the continental U.S. with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps , and later a study abroad in the U.K. and busking in Europe. Trent began his music education on the piano in his home town of Salt Lake City, Utah, and he began studying as a percussionist shortly after. At the University of Utah, a solid foundation was laid with Utah Symphony’s percussionist Doug Wolf and timpanist George Brown, as well as area professionals including Doug Smith, Danny Soulier, Kelly Wallace, and Mike Sammons. After performing for a summer with one of Drum Corp International’s top ten groups, the Blue Knights, under the direction of Daniel Darrah, Rod Kosterman, and Ralph Hardimon, and spending a semester studying in Newcastle, UK, Trent transferred to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Finishing his Bachelor of Music Degree, he continues his private studies with San Francisco Symphony’s 32 year principal percussionist Jack Van Geem, and James Lee Wyatt.

Brought up within a strong musical support system, Trent understands the importance of giving back to the community. Current outreach includes assistance with multiple local public schools in the band room, providing group lessons and masterclasses, percussion instrument repair and maintenance, and over two years assisting in the classrooms of precocious second graders. Past community activities include performances with the Asia Foundation, the Deaf Olympics, and in hospitals and senior centers.
